So, The Proposal is in final stages. I’m almost done with it. In some ways this one isn’t as dark as some of my others. Every book is different. I don’t really so much create it as just write what the characters tell me to write. I’m not sure if readers fully realize this but for most writers we aren’t actually in full control of the story.
It’s not an excuse. It’s not a cute thing we say. It really is the reality of art. It’s not just “me”. It’s me and “something else.” Some weird magic spiritual thing that “happens”. I don’t know how it happens or how it works, I just know that anybody who has touched this magic for long enough no longer has the luxury of agnosticism, let’s put it that way.
I mean sure we can edit things after the fact. Like if something doesn’t work logically or there is a loose thread or somebody is wearing clothes that magically disappear in the next scene with nobody undressing first, but really, how dark or light a book is, the exact shit that happens, that’s really up to the book. It’s definitely not the lightest thing I’ve ever written but it’s going to be a really good “starter book” for anybody new to me.
So if any of you have friends that you’ve told about my books and they aren’t sure if they can do dark plots, they could probably read this as an entry point into my writing.
Overall I’m pretty happy with how this has turned out, though. It’s a little different in some ways, but in other ways it’s definitely a “kitty book”.
Release date for this one is going to be October 14th, so mark your reading calendars!
