Okay, so I have FINALLY gotten part of the plot stuff starting to come together re: The Sacrifice. But it still needs to percolate a bit. So what I’m going to do is… I’m going to reschedule the pre-order for the sacrifice everywhere to April and I’m first going to finish up the Berserker novella which I think I can probably have to you guys by the end of this month or early February but it keeps me more or less on track with my publishing schedule.
I had wanted to release The Sacrifice first because it’s the second book in The Proposal duet and I didn’t want there to be this giant lag from release of The Proposal to this. BUT I can’t rush or force a story that still needs to percolate and I already know more what I want to do with the Berserker story and it’s shorter. Plus there is ZERO pressure with it because I don’t have a due date or pre-order date. I can just write it and drop it. Most likely the BERSERKER story, as a sort of prelude to the Berserker/Valkyrie world, will be a novella so it will be an ebook release only which makes it a lot easier logistically to handle.
So that’s where we are.
ETA: I decided to go ahead and delist The Sacrifice everywhere because I remembered nobody’s cards get charged for a pre-order until the book actually releases so nobody is losing anything and it’s much easier than putting more pressure on myself for a new due date. This book will be ready when it’s ready and I don’t need to be setting up pre-orders THIS early in the writing. Usually I don’t set up any kind of pre-order until I’m at least 3/4 of the way through and know where it’s going. So that was an error on my part. But I don’t want to change the date multiple times so I’m just going to go ahead and cancel it for now and then bring it back when it’s actually READY.

Percolate*
Such a lovely sounding word!
Also, do what’s best for you and your muse. I am so excited though!!!

lol right? It’s like I’m making word coffee. (Or tea since I make my tea in the coffee pot, don’t judge!)
But yeah I think it’s definitely possible I can release the berserker story by the end of this month and then I can put Sacrifice on the schedule for April and have time to sort out the book. But it’s smarter I think to delist/unpub than to risk being in this position again in a few months if this book decides not to talk to me. I was just so tied to the idea of releasing this close to The Proposal. But The Proposal has done amazingly well and this will just boost it up again WHEN this does in fact release. Especially since they can both be read as total stand alones.

First of all….Happy New Year!🥂
Second,you are the author,you decide.
And if you think a story needs to “percolate” a little longer, that’s what will happen.
We’ll wait patiently until you think it’s ready.
And a bonus-story inbetween is most welcome!

thanks!

Sounds good. Love your books whenever they arrive! Enjoy the writing process and push stress aside.

Thanks! I think the real problem was I set up a pre-order before I was far enough along in this process of discovery for this story. But I’m switching tracks and regrouping and hopefully going to stay on a decent publishing schedule for this year!

I totally understand and that sounds a great idea. Another author I read caught a lot of flack recently for cancelling a book for the third time (so did I when I defended her). She had a baby at the end of last year and just didn’t realise how much it would affect her ability to write. I couldn’t believe how awful some supposed “fans” were in how they spoke about her IN HER GROUP! Given the absolutely dreadful year we have all endured, and how difficult things still are, I try to be understanding of how this can affect the creative process. I’ve often struggled to read a damn book, so can empathise that authors are probably struggling to write them. Anyone who moans and criticises a pre-order being cancelled is just a selfish arse in my opinion – or probably wasn’t around in the 90’s when there was no social media etc so you only knew a book was being released when it appeared in the shops.

Yep that’s why I decided to just “shut it down” rather than reschedule and possibly have to do it again. Also let’s be real… nobody is buying and reading books on January 20th. And that was my slated release date. Anybody with any sense would understand a reschedule. As for speaking of her that way IN HER GROUP… they should have been removed from her group. I don’t have a group and no author should have a group to be abused in. You want to be abusive you go do that in another forum/place.
My issue with writing has nothing to do with anything going on in the world. It’s just that this book simply wasn’t ready to unlock all its secrets to me and I jumped the gun and put undue pressure on myself.

It’ll be ready when its ready, take your time and enjoy life as you go through the creative process.
