Welcome to all the new readers. I hope you’ll consider buying Trust Game. It’s a great introduction into my writing and if you like it, you will no doubt like my other work. Also, with it being a novella, instead of a longer novel, there is a smaller barrier to entry on price. My novellas are $2.99 whereas my full length novels are $4.95. While I believe the prices I charge are fair and honest for what I do, I also understand that readers who are new to me might not want to spend $5 when there are cheaper books out there and some people read so voraciously that $5 is something they have to think about.
However, if you’ve read me you know I write books that “stick with you”. Sometimes just having endless quantity of something isn’t better. I would rather, and this is me personally, but I would rather pay $5 for 1 book that really sticks with me and makes me think and feel and that I truly LOVE than $5 for 5 books that don’t make any particularly deep impression on me.
You’re paying for an experience and a quality of experience… not “let’s just fill up some empty time in my life”
Nevertheless, if you haven’t experienced my work, you don’t know if you like it or not and $5 spent on an experience that isn’t right for you is $5 wasted. The same can be said of $3 but for whatever reason $2.99 seems less psychologically distressing to people who are taking a risk on a new author.
That’s part of why I’m planning to do novellas like this in addition to full length releases because it allows a lower barrier to entry for people to try my work without making quite the same amount of financial commitment. However, I’m just not working for less than $2.99 per piece because of the drastic reduction in income (Amazon pays twice the royalties for a book priced $2.99 and over than it does for books priced less). So that’s just a little bit of an explanation of my rationale here.
Having said that, a lot of people are asking for a sequel to this. I don’t really do sequels. I like stories that are “complete” and even though my endings are sort of “open ended” that’s because I’m writing sexual fantasies. For a sexual fantasy to be really effective and do its job, it has to be something that is a jumping off point for the reader, where they can create in their own minds from there. So super neatly wrapped up endings don’t work for what I’m trying to create/do. I’ve always written “open endings”. They ARE endings, they just aren’t these trivial “Hollywood” endings that people are used to.
Some people love that about my work and some hate it. But I’m really writing for a very special type of reader who enjoys the type of thing I’m creating. I’m not interested in watering it down or making it more “mass consumer friendly”. There are plenty of books out there that “appeal to everyone”.
Anyway, thank you guys for reading and supporting my work. Without you, I’d just be talking to myself.
Cheyenne Redding says
I’m a frequent reader of your books and I love every single one I get my hands on. Thanks for continuing to write amazing pieces for all of us to ensconce ourselves in even if it is for a few hours a day <3
Kitty says
Oh, and also, for those new to me for whom price may be a barrier to trying me, I would encourage you to follow me on Bookbub. I try to run a bookbub at least every few months for a one day 99 cent sale on a backlist title. If you subscribe to me on bookbub you should find out when I have one of those. Also, you could try following the dark romance/erotica mailing list and you’ll get the email when I’m featured.
Kitty says
Oh and of course it goes without saying (though maybe I should say it), thanks to all you regular readers as well! I just can’t reply to every comment. And I feel bad when I reply to some and not others because I hate leaving people out. At the same time there comes a point where replying to every single person leads to just hours and hours of social interaction online when the reality is most of you would rather I focus my energy on writing the next book instead of constant social media interaction. So I truly appreciate every single reader, and I also appreciate every reader who reaches out in some way. I appreciate email/comments. If you’d like a personal reply from me, the best way is to use the contact link at the top of the site and contact me ANY time besides release week. Basically during release week I get swamped with contact and comments that I can’t keep up with (sure, part of that is like “mandatory” for a contest like this), so those who want personal response from me, the best way is to simply contact me at any time that is not release week. I don’t get nearly so swamped then and can reply to my readers.

I love your Writing! I love that your characters are exactly who they are and that you feel no need to make them into a cookie cutter couple to achieve an HEA.

AlexD. says
I have been reading your books for years and always look forward to the next one. Each story is unique in it’s telling, and I thought a lot about what you wrote on your fb post recently about why you think it is people read your stories- the primal need to feel safe and secure- and I agree with it. It’s part of the fantasy to let go of all reservations and just enjoy it all. Oh the Catholic guilt, how it consumes real life hahaha. May you have a beautiful day and thank you for the giveaway opportunity xx
Kitty says
Thanks! No one should feel guilt over being human. If you didn’t choose to be human, why should you feel guilt for being a part of this animal world? (Arguably one of the more interesting features of this world.) If you did somehow choose it before this lifetime, then you had a reason from a broader perspective for it… so again… why feel guilt. Most human guilt is a waste of energy. The people who do the least to feel guilty for ironically seem to feel the most guilt. Though obviously you are pushing through this if you are reading my books, LOL
AlexD. says
I concur! Old habits, die hard, though. But man, am I trying hahaha x
